AGE is one of the best thing you can take before and after eating something sugary or starchy to keep your body in balance and prevent a glycemic spike
As the name implies, the extract is aged for up to twenty months. Over this time period the harsh and irritating compounds in garlic are converted naturally into stable and safe sulfur compounds.
- Carboline is the strongest defender of cellular DNA that neutralizes singlet oxygen, and the cellular mugger Peroxynitrite, found only in Kyolic aged organic garlic extract!
2. F4-protein is the substance that activates immune cell system defenders, natural killer cells, T-cells and macrophage, found only in Kyolic’s organic aged garlic extract!
3. Fructosyl-arginine protects low-density lipoprotein (LDL) from oxidation, the only state in which it can initiate cardiovascular problems, found only in Kyolic aged organic garlic extract!
4. SAMC prevents the hormone testosterone from changing into hazardous levels of dihydrotestosterone that contributes to abnormal cell growth, hair loss and prostate abnormalities, found only in Kyolic’s organic aged garlic extract!
5. SP-Saponin, a priceless adaptogen, helps keep the immune system in balance and activates the most crucial protective antioxidant enzymes in your body: glutathione, super oxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase, found only in organically grown Kyolic aged garlic extract!
6. S-allyl cysteine is a power-packed antioxidant and detoxifier. Only Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract offers a standardized level of this substance.
7. Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract is the only garlic supplement to receive a U.S. Patent for lowering homocysteine, a marker more important than high cholesterol. Homocysteine is an amino acid that inflicts damage to the inner arterial lining (endothelium) and other cells of the body.
Garlic contains a wide range of substances, including antioxidants, which are enhanced by aging garlic extract and act together to help prevent atherosclerosis, heart disease, stroke, cancer and aging, as well as boost immunity and help increase memory and life span.
Garlic antioxidants are highest in the aged garlic supplement compared to fresh garlic and other commercial preparations. The antioxidants protect against toxic effects of free radicals from radiation, including sunlight, environmental pollutants and some anti-cancer drugs, and help fight cancer, heart disease, loss of memory and aging.
Certain garlic products are known to be hepatoprotective against liver toxins (Nakagawa et al. 1989, Sumioka et al. 1998). Alcohol is one toxin known to cause liver failure in the case of chronic overconsumption. The toxicity of alcohol is due in part to acetaldehyde, which is metabolized from alcohol in the liver. Acetaldehyde is subsequently metabolized into acetic acid by mitochondial aldehyde dehydrogenase. Enhancement of aldehyde-dehydrogenase activity is one way in which to avoid acetaldehyde intoxication. In the present studies, all mice receiving only water died within 5 d after acetaldehyde treatment. AGE and DGP protected against acetaldehyde intoxication. HGJ was also slightly effective, although RGJ was not. It is unclear what might explain the protection provided by AGE and DHP, although enhanced aldehyde dehydrogenase is a possibility. Further studies are clearly required.
Over 550 scientific studies have been completed on aged garlic extract, done in major universities. These studies have focused on aspects such as cholesterol, high blood pressure, homocysteine levels, inhibiting LDL oxidation, anti-platelet aggregation and adhesion (blood thinning effect), stimulating blood circulation, immune stimulation, cognitive effects, liver function and anti-tumor features, controlling immune response, improving cognitive effects through increasing blood flow to the brain, improving liver function and anti-tumor effects.
Many medical papers from leading universities and garlic conferences show that Kyolic’s organic aged garlic extract mounts a tough defense against killer diseases and immune system deficiency. Kyolic organic aged garlic extract protects the health of the trillions of your body’s cells in the following organs:
Bladder cells – Penn State University
Breast cells – Memorial Sloan Kettering & Corned University

Troubled by quality of the air you breathe, the water you drink and the food you eat? Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract helps your liver to throw off environmental toxins while it boosts your immune system.
Human studies confirm immune stimulation by garlic. Subjects receiving aged garlic extract at 1800 mg a day for three weeks showed a 155.5% increase in natural killer immune cell activity that kills invaders and cancer cells.
In six weeks, patients with AIDS receiving aged garlic extract showed an enhancement of natural killer cells from a seriously low level to a normal level.
Other animal studies show that aged garlic extract protects against early and late stages of cancer development in the colon, mammary glands, skin, stomach and esophagus. Among the compounds in the garlic extract showing prevention of tumor promotion is allixin, a flavonoid that also prevents the formation of prostaglandins, hormone-like substances that are active in enhancing inflammation, platelet aggregation and tumor growth.
Work at Sloan Kettering Memorial Medical Center showed that the water soluble S-allyl cysteine and S-allyl mercaptocysteine, which are high in aged garlic extract, stop the growth of human prostate cancer and breast cancer cells in culture.
Recent studies on mice show that garlic may have important effects on brain function and in increasing life span. The research showed that aged garlic extract and its key sulfur compound, S-allyl cysteine, enhanced learning ability in mice that are genetically prone to early aging. Nerve cells exposed to these compounds showed an unusual ability to grow and branch, which may be associated with the enhanced memory function by the garlic compounds. Aged garlic extract prevented degeneration in the frontal lobe of the brain, improved memory retention and extended the life span of the animals.
In several double-blind, placebo-controlled studies, patients given Kyolic® Aged Garlic Extract showed significant reduction of LDL (bad cholesterol) and increase of HDL (good cholesterol).
Among these clinical studies, investigators in many universities tested the efficacy of Aged Garlic Extract on the various cardiovascular disease risk factors. Results demonstrated the following benefits of Aged Garlic Extract:
- Lowers total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL (bad cholesterol), homocysteine
- Increases HDL (good cholesterol)
- Reduces platelet aggregation and adhesion (blood thinning effect)
- Lowers blood pressure
- Stimulates blood circulation
- Reduces LDL oxidation (reduces stickiness),
- Reduces oxidative damage in the body caused by smoking,
- Inhibits the rate of progression of coronary calcium formation
Aged garlic extract known as Kyolic may decrease the risk of heart attacks by reducing platelet aggregation in the blood, according to UK scientists. Dr. Khalid Rhaman and colleagues from John Moores University previously found that a daily supplementation of Kyolic brand aged garlic extract inhibits platelet aggregation in healthy people, Nutraingredients.com reported. Clot formation inside healthy blood vessels is abnormal and may lead to heart attacks. They also found that the garlic extract reduces oxidative stress in smokers, who are at higher risk of heart disease.
have found that S-allylmercaptocysteine (SAMC), a water-soluble sulfur compound present in AGE, stops colon cancer cells from dividing.
AGE and its constituents have demonstrated anti-cancer effects in many cancer models including bladder tumors, melanoma cells, neuroblastoma cells, skin cancer, breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, esophageal cancer, stomach and lung cancer and erythroleukemia.
Aged garlic extract and in other experiments some forms of garlic powder have been shown to boost cell glutathione, which scavenges free radicals and helps maintain a healthy immune system and enzymes that convert free radicals to water and destroy toxic peroxides.
Garlic supplementation in our daily diet may be one of the best options to prevent aging and disease and therefore extend life. Those who wish to eat a clove of garlic a day and do not suffer adverse reactions can do so. Various garlic products on the market offer an alternative but require careful viewing of the manufacturer’s standardization of the product and of the bioavailability of the compounds in the supplement. Those who want to increase their daily dose of garlic but avoid garlic breath can turn to regular use of aged garlic extract, a deodorized standardized, highly bioavailable supplement, whose benefits are well researched.
Two studies have tested that ability of garlic supplementation to prevent and possibly reverse atherosclerotic plaques. A study on rabbits (Atherosclerosis 1997; 132: 37-42) investigated the effects of Kyolic aged garlic extract on the development of fatty streaks in arteries of rabbits fed high and low cholesterol diets. Fatty streaks are growths of fibrous fatty deposits in the smooth muscle tissue of the arteries and are markers of early atherosclerotic lesions. The study used four groups of animals. Group one received a standard diet, group two a standard diet plus odor free Kyolic, group three a standard diet supplemented with 1% cholesterol, and group four, a standard diet supplemented with 1% cholesterol plus Kyolic.
After six weeks rabbits of group three developed fatty streaks covering 70% of the surface area of the large artery studied (thoracic aorta), which was reduced to 2.5% in the Kyolic treated group four. No fatty streaks were present in groups one and two. The high cholesterol diet in group three caused cholesterol accumulation in the aorta, which was reduced by 50% in the Kyolic supplemented rabbits, in group four. Kyolic also prevented the in vitro growth of smooth muscle cells that occurs in plaque development. The effects were dose related. The higher the dose of Kyolic in the culture medium, the lesser the growth. The study also found that following injury of the carotid artery, Kyolic reduced fatty plaque formation in the intima of the carotid artery by 50%, compared to controls with high cholesterol diet and no Kyolic.
Studies of a senile dementia model in mice showed that AGE prevented atrophic changes in the frontal brain, improved learning abilities and memory retention, and increased longevity in the senescence-accelerated mouse
Transformation of normal cells to the malignant state proceeds through several discernible stages, including initiation by DNA damage and later events that have been defined as tumor promotion in animals and in vitro (Borek 1993). AGE inhibits both early and late stages of carcinogenesis, resulting in inhibition of tumor growth in many tissues, including colon, mammary glands, skin, stomach and esophagus
Glutathione is an important defense mechanism in living cells. As a substrate for the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase, reduced glutathione (GSH) protects cellular constituents from the damaging effects of peroxides formed in metabolism and through other ROS reactions. Decreased tissue GSH levels are associated with cell damage, depressed immunity and the progression of aging, and may increase the risk of cancer development.
AGE increases cellular glutathione in a variety of cells, including those in normal liver and mammary tissue (Liu et al. 1992). The ability of AGE to increase glutathione peroxidase and other ROS scavenging enzymes (Wei and Lau 1998) is important in radioprotection and UV suppression of certain forms of immunity (Reeve et al. 1993), in reducing the risk of radiation and chemically induced cancer (Borek 1993) and in preventing the range of ROS-induced DNA, lipid and protein damage implicated in the disease and aging processes
A new Australian study has found that Aged Garlic Extract significantly reduces blood pressure in Australian adults with hypertension, offering hope to those who don’t respond well to prescription medications or would prefer a natural therapy.
The study found that two daily capsules of a high potency formula of Aged Garlic Extract was enough to reduce systolic blood pressure by an average of 12 millimetres of mercury – which is comparable to the effect of many commonly prescribed anti-hypertensive medicines.
This is significant because a reduction in systolic blood pressure in this range lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease by 16 – 40 per cent.
Dr Ried said: “More than three million Australian adults suffer from high blood pressure, or hypertension, which places increased strain on their heart, and increases their risk of heart attack or heart failure.
“These results provide more robust evidence supporting the use of Aged Garlic Extract as a safe and effective adjunct treatment for hypertension that has few known side effects.
“While our study focussed on using Aged Garlic Extract as an adjunct treatment to conventional medications, there is evidence to suggest that people who are newly diagnosed with hypertension could try it as an initial treatment under medical supervision, and see what results they get.
possibility that AGE prevents physiological ageing and may be beneficial for age-related cognitive disorders in humans.
AGE can literally change and transform your immune system.
Anti-tumor effect. AGE has a variety of pharmacologic effects, including tumor cell growth inhibition and chemopreventative effects. In rodents, AGE and its constituents have been reported to inhibit the development of chemically induced tumors in the bladder (Lau et al. 1986), mammary gland (Amagase and Milner 1993), colon (Sumiyoshi and Wargovich 1990), esophagus (Wargovich et al. 1988), lung (Sparnins et al. 1986), skin (Nishino et al. 1989) and stomach (Wattenberg et al. 1989) in rodents.
Anti-psychological stress effect. Psychological and physical stresses have been shown to suppress immune functions. Yokoyama et al. (1986) reported that an AGE preparation containing vitamins B-1 and B-12 restored physical stress–induced immune suppression in mice. Recently, we determined the effect of AGE on immune suppression caused by psychological stress using a communication box. After 4 d of psychological stress, a decrease in spleen weight, spleen cells and hemolytic plaque-forming cells (PFC) was observed in the control mice. AGE significantly prevented the decreases in spleen weight and cells, and restored the reduction of hemolytic PFC caused by the stress
Our results showed that AGE significantly enhanced spermatogenesis after warm water treatment. RGJ, HGJ and DHP, on the other hand, were only slightly effective. Water-administered mice had decreased intromission counts compared with the normal group. AGE significantly improved impotence, whereas RGJ and HGJ were only slightly effective. DGP showed no effect. The effects of AGE were equivalent to those of testosterone. We recently demonstrated that AGE significantly improved peripheral circulation in a cooling rewarming test, which evaluated peripheral circulation. Again, the other three garlic preparations had no effect (Ushijima et al. 1997). The anti-impotence response to AGE may be due to its effects on peripheral circulation. Because oxygen and nutrients are obviously required in spermatogenesis, and it is well known that blood circulation to the testis is poor, improvement in circulation would likely result in improved nutriture and thus spermatogenesis. Furthermore, our previous studies (Ushijima et al. 1997) revealed that AGE significantly improved physical performance, prolonging both active swimming and treadmill running in rodents. Thus, it is possible that AGE might enhance the supply of oxygen to seminiferous tubule cells and stimulate energy metabolism in the testis.
AGE inhibits the growth of transplanted tumor cells and enhanced NK and killer cell activities (Kyo et al. 1998).
AGE was the most effective and the most consistent compared with the other garlic preparations examined.
Aged garlic extract prevents a decline of NK cell number and activity in patients with advanced cancer.
The study showed that administering AGE to patients with advanced cancer of the digestive system improved NK cell activity
Hyperglycaemia causes increased protein glycation and the formation of advanced glycation endproducts which underlie the complications of diabetes and ageing.
Both aged garlic extract and S-allyl cysteine inhibited formation of glucose and methylglyoxal derived advanced glycation endproducts
Glycation and AGEP formation are also accompanied by formation of free radicals via autoxidation of glucose and glycated proteins. Compounds with combined antiglycation and antioxidant properties may offer therapeutic potential. Recent studies suggest that aged garlic extract (AGE) inhibits formation of AGEPs in vitro and formation of glycation-derived free radicals. S-Allylcysteine, a key component of aged garlic, is a potent antioxidant and can inhibit AGEP formation.
AGE protects against atherosclerosis by preventing hypertension, reducing serum cholesterol and triglycerides, and by inhibiting platelet aggregation and LDL oxidation (24,25). AGE also increases activity of antioxidant enzymes such as catalase, superoxidase dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase (26).
Recent studies in the author’s laboratory have shown that AGE is an effective inhibitor of AGEPs in vitro (Fig. 3). The key ingredient responsible for the antiglycation properties of AGE was S-allylcysteine, which proved an effective inhibitor of AGEPs (Fig. 4).
The following clinical studies have shown the reduction of cardiovascular disease risk factors including
reduction of blood lipids or fats, such as serum cholesterol, and triglycerides, inhibition of platelet aggregation
or blood-thinning effects, enhancement of circulation and reduction in blood pressure following the intake of
Aged Garlic Extract:
Inhibits Plaque Formation in the Coronary Artery
Hypotensive/Blood Pressure Lowering Effects
Decreased the Levels of Serum Prostaglandins, PGE2 and PGF2a
Dietary supplementation with AGE decreased plasma and urinary oxidative stress
marker levels in smokers and non-smokers and increased the antioxidant status of smokers.
has been shown to help lower serum cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL, blood pressure levels, and inhibit
platelet aggregation, it may play an important role in the prevention of cardiovascular disease
Reduction of Serum Homocysteine
Abdullah et al. (1989) found that Aged Garlic Extract enhanced natural killer cell activity and improved
helper/suppressor T cell ratios in AIDS patients. After only six weeks intake, natural killer cell activity was
within the normal range for all subjects. Further, patients in this study noted improvements in diarrhea,
candidiasis, pansinusitis with recurrent fever and interruption of recurrent cycles of genital herpes.
After 24 hours, Aged Garlic Extract doubled the ability of Natural Killer cells to destroy YAC-1 (a cancer
found that in various stress tests Kyolic was more effective
than raw garlic, heated garlic or powdered garlic at reducing both physiological and psychological stress.
Subjects given Kyolic swam 82% (2ml) and 90% (4ml) of the time they were in water, whereas those not given
garlic swam only 50% of the time. Except at a low dosage of raw garlic, only Kyolic significantly enhanced
swimming time. Subjects given Kyolic were also found to run longer than those given a placebo (control), raw
garlic (RGJ), heated garlic (HGJ) or garlic powder (PG) in a mechanical treadmill running test. Control ran for
929 seconds whereas those given Kyolic ran for 1611 seconds, almost twice as long.
Supplementation with the AGE product reduced stress indexes and improved symptoms such as
chill, stiffness in the shoulders, fatigue lassitude, decline of physical strength/willpower, headache, abnormal
bowel movement, and lumbago. The efficacy of the AGE product was felt by 87.5% of subjects,
Kawashima et al. (1986) studied 20 healthy male college students and found that Aged Garlic Extract (2 ml,
twice per day) improved subjective and objective symptoms of fatigue following 22 days of intense physical
training. Aged Garlic Extract also improved patellar reflex and promoted serum levels of GOT, GPT, triglycerides, and lactic acid, which favor relief from fatigue. These latter effects provided further objective measurements of the anti-fatigue effects of Aged Garlic Extract. The authors concluded that Aged Garlic Extract is an effective medicine for the prevention of and recovery from fatigue.
AGE supplementation significantly increased the sum total of oxygen uptake
during intense exercise.
Aged Garlic Extract and its constituents have demonstrated anti-cancer effects in an array of cancer
models including bladder tumors, melanoma cells, neuroblastoma cells, skin cancer, breast cancer, colon cancer,
prostate cancer, esophageal cancer, stomach and lung cancer, erythroleukemia and aflatoxin induced
mutagenesis as seen in the following studies:
Inhibited the Development of Liver Cancer
Inhibited the Activity of Human Cytochrome-P450 (CYP) Enzymes Enhanced Nerve Survival
